This list, which is presented in alphabetical order, is intended to be a complete list of Windows Services for Windows NT, 2000, 2003, and XP. Please be aware that, depending on the specifics of your system (programs, network, drivers), you may not have each and every service listed here. If a particular service that you are looking for is not on the list, please contact us and let us know about it.

Each service description includes an easy-to-understand definition and examples of how you might use the service in the real world. Each service description also includes:

• Service name

Official name for the service, cannot be changed

• Display Name

Name that appers in the services control panel, a "user friendly" name that can be changed if the user desires

• Executable File Name

Arbitrary name given to the executable file (program)

• Dependencies

Services that need to be turned on in order for this service to run. Use this information to help you make decisions about which services to disable.

• Reciprocal Dependencies

Services that depend on this service to run properly. Use this information to help you make decisions about which services to disable.

• Default Startup Type

This is the default startup type when a clean installation has been performed and can be set to: Automatic, Manual, or Disabled

• Automatic: Service will start automatically as soon as you boot up your computer-requires no intervention from you
• Manual: Service will not start automatically when you boot up your computer, but it is always available, and will turn on once it is needed by another program or service-allows your system to run a little faster while keeping the service available for use
• Disabled: Service will not start automatically when you boot up your computer, and will not be available to run if another program or service needs it to function
• Recommended Startup Type

Recommendation for service startup type: Automatic, Manual, or Disabled. These recommendations are based on our personal experience and may not be right for you. These are only recommendations; use these settings at your own risk. Before tweaking your services, you should make sure to have a current tested backup of your system settings in case something goes wrong.
