›› Fax Services
Overall, Fax services allow you to send, receive, and manage faxes all from your desktop computer. Fax services allow you to send and receive faxes from your local fax machine attached to your computer or from a shared fax machine on a network.
Besides sending and receiving faxes, Fax is a great management tool that is able to help you do a few more important jobs. For instance, Fax services allow you to track and monitor and also set up routing rules and policies for incoming and outgoing faxes. In addition, with these services you are able to configure your fax devices to your preferences. You also have the option of archiving faxes that have been previously sent or received.
It is important to note that Fax services are not installed by default during Windows Setup. Therefore, you must manually install Fax in order to send/receive faxes through your computer. Since Fax services allow you to send/receive faxes from a desktop application, the application must be able to connect to the fax machine somehow. It is able to do this through the Telephony service (TAPI). Therefore, if the Telephony service or the Print Spooler service is disabled, Fax services will not start. If Fax is stopped and there are jobs pending in the queue, it will automatically start and process the jobs, then stop again when no longer needed.
